The arm ring is based on a historical find from Aggersborg, Denmark. It is a very popular Viking design of braided arm rings.

In Viking culture, arm rings were significant multifaceted items used as a display of wealth and status, a form of portable currency known as “hacksilver,” and as symbols for oaths of loyalty and legal agreements. Both men and women wore them.
Arm rings made of precious metals, such as gold and silver, denoted the wearer’s wealth and social standing. More ornate or heavier rings indicated greater importance, and kings and chieftains were often referred to as “ring-givers” in sagas and poetry, a title of respect for their generosity in distributing wealth to their followers.
In a time before a standardised coin system was widespread, arm rings, particularly those made of silver, functioned as a practical, portable form of currency because they could be easily cut into smaller pieces (known as hacksilver) to pay for goods and services in trade.

Each piece of jewellery from the Nord Emporium workshop is handmade by me. You can order personalisation as hand-engraving of your personal rune or initials.
