Fossi Wolf Cross Sterling Silver
Thor’s Hammer, known as the Wolf Cross, was found in Iceland, Fossi, 10th-11th century AD. The original is exhibited in the National Museum of Iceland in Reykjavik
It can be interpreted both as a Christian cross and as a Thor’s Hammer.
Mjölnir is the legendary, magical hammer of Thor, the Norse god of thunder, forged by dwarfs to be an indestructible weapon that never misses its mark and returns to his hand. Known as “the crusher” or “lightning,” it serves as a protector of gods and humanity against giants, while also functioning as a sacred, consecrated tool for fertility and marriage blessings.
Forged by the dwarven brothers Sindri and Brokkr, it has a famously short handle due to Loki’s interference.
It can flatten mountains, create lightning, and shrink to fit inside Thor’s shirt.
Beyond destruction, it was worn as a protective amulet to represent prosperity, fertility, and divine blessing.
It was used to bless marriages, sanctify, and protect the dead, in addition to its primary combat role against the Jötuns (giants).
While often depicted as usable only by Thor, Norse myths (such as in the Prose Edda) suggest it could be possessed by others, though it required great strength, and it is later inherited by Thor’s sons, Magni and Modi, after Ragnarök. Vikings wore Thor’s hammer amulets primarily for protection, strength, and to show devotion to the Norse god Thor, who was revered as a guardian of humanity
